If it suits you
Eish….who knew suit shopping could be so difficult?
Luckily I’ve been exposed to enough Men’s Health Magazines, listened to many women around the office and have been lectured long enough by close family over the years to know that one doesn’t just slap on the first available suit for your wedding.
It’s quite a process mind you, but I never thought it was going to be this difficult. Firstly one needs to choose between hiring or buying. Since we’re not having a “themed” wedding as such, which cancels out the penguin suit and tuxedo, it made much more sense for me to spend a bit of money on a quality suit that I could use long after the wedding
We must have gone to over 25 different stores in Sandton and Pretoria, including Eurosuit and a plethora of bridal expo’s before we finally saw something we both liked. The jacket fit perfectly (and it was a smaller size mind you), the fabric was exquisite the cut was perfect. Then came the shocking realisation that perhaps I should have been aiming for a lot more spins on the mountainbike.
To make matters worse we could not buy the jacket and the trousers as separates - they had to be sold as one piece and tailoring a bigger one down to my size was not an option.
Allow me to briefly digress for a moment to mention some quantum physics quickly. No, this has nothing to do about me trying to fit into a pair of trousers that clearly won’t even go over my thigh. This my dear friends is how one sweet loving and caring bride-to-be turned into a stark raving bridezilla in less than 5 seconds. I think she got into overdrive mode, quicker than it takes a Formula 1 car to reach top gear off the starting grid.
Luckily no harm was done but unfortunately we had to walk away from a really, really nice suit.
But this story has a happy ending though…
After upping the ante and checking out the stores we thought were too expensive, we finally found something (much nicer) than the original. This is a real classy, slim fitting masterpiece, tailored just right to make me look as dashing as James Bond (if I have to say so myself). And I must admit - that the friendly and very knowledgeable staff at the last store made it a truly painless shopping experience.
